Riverdale: S1 E11: To Riverdale and Back Again

Riverdale" Chapter Eleven: To Riverdale and Back Again (TV Episode 2017) - IMDb

Betty is busy overseeing Homecoming and Reunion weekend, but Alice wants her to help with the Jason Blossom investigation. Cheryl and Polly have both decided to go to Homecoming in Jason’s honor, until a revelation waylays their plans. This episode was written by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and was directed by Kevin Sullivan. Also, this episode broadcast on April 27th 2017 by The CW. SPOILERS FOR THE FOLLOWING EPISODE AND SHOW AHEAD…

Arresting a Suspect

Whereas last episode focused on the drama around the party at Archie’s, this episode focused on Homecoming, which was being spearheaded by Betty and, when her mother asks her to investigate FP, she refuses. Alice’s theory is that, since Hiram could potentially be involved in Jason’s death, FP could have been hired to do the crime, which I don’t think is necessarily the case. Veronica, who is desperate to discover whether her father is innocent or not, decides to help Alice and she attempts to rope Archie in, but he refuses at first. Elsewhere, Jughead has noticed that father is making more of an effort and FP is attempting to engage with Jughead about his manuscript about Jason’s death. It’s a nice father-son bonding moment and I’m grateful that the show gave us this because the rest of the episode is spent with us in limbo regarding his innocence. The beginning of the episode was pretty fun and intriguing and set the episode up to be a very fun and entertaining one overall!

Elsewhere, in Thornhill, Polly was skulking around the estate when she stumbled upon Clifford’s room, which showed us a horrific and shocking sight. Clifford is actually grey-haired and his signature red hair is actually just a collection wigs, one for every mood apparently. It’s such a silly plot-twist but I really appreciate some humor in this show because it can get really dark sometimes. Anyway, Cheryl and Polly were meant to be going to the ball and Polly pushes Cheryl to explore her mother’s closet, which Penelope had already said was out of bounds. Cheryl then discovers her nan’s ring, which is surprising because the last known location of the ring was with Jason and, when his body was found, it wasn’t there. Did the Blossom’s have something do with his death after all? Polly brings this up with Penelope and she tells her that Clifford and Jason argued and he threw the ring in Clifford’s face and stormed out. Do I believe this story? No I don’t. I don’t believe it would be that simple. She is then told to drink her milkshake, which turns out to have been drugged so she sleeps through the Homecoming ball and doesn’t tell anyone about the ring. Cheryl tells her parents that she flushed the ring away but it turns out she didn’t. What is Cheryl planning to do? This whole storyline has been weird, crazy and everything I expected from the Blossoms because they are an odd family to put it nicely…

Riverdale Recap, Episode 11: To Riverdale and Back Again

Although I could have sworn that Jughead and Betty broke up in the previous episode, they seem to be doing better than ever and Alice, through somewhat skewed intentions, has invited FP and Jughead to dinner, so that she can interrogate him and work out whether he was involved in Jason’s murder. Not only this but Archie, having decided to help Veronica because he wants to prove FP’s innocence for Jughead, and Veronica are using this dinner party to break into FP’s trailer and try and find something that links him to the crime. Firstly, the pair of them find absolutely nothing in his trailer, which is surprising because I could have sworn that he had Jason’s jacket hanging up in his closet but yet they didn’t find it. Back at the dinner party, Alice was laying it on thick with the interrogation because it became blatantly obvious that he was being grilled. I swear that TV Shows have horrifically awkward dinner parties and are absolutely incapable of being normal. From Grey’s Anatomy to Lost, I dare someone to give me an example of a dinner party that doesn’t have a single awkward moment. Anyway, it was still fun and I enjoyed seeing Betty and Jughead squirm as their parents fought a battle of wits at the dinner table. Alice, once again, proving she is the best character on the show…

Homecoming was fun to watch, with Veronica and Archie singing a brilliant rendition of ‘Kids in America’, which is a party classic. The party was great until Betty noticed Archie and Veronica talking to her mother about something and, upon asking them, she discovered that they had broken into FP’s trailer and discovered nothing to pin the crime on him. Jughead comes out and asks what’s happening and everything is explained to him. He is clearly angry and upset at everyone and his blind trust is his dad actually hurts him here as the sheriff has gotten a warrant to search the trailer and they discover a lockbox containing a gun, presumably the one that killed Jason Blossom. The parents all rush out to the group of teenagers and inform Jughead that his dad has been arrested. However, Archie and Veronica instantly know something is wrong because they searched his trailer and there was nothing there in the place where the gun was supposedly hidden, which means someone is framing FP for murder. The show is so close to its conclusion that the killer needs to be revealed next episode and, from the looks of the trailer, that is exactly what will happen!

Riverdale Season 1 Episode 11 Review: To Riverdale and Back Again - TV Fanatic

Scattered Thoughts

  • Archie’s mother, Mary, was a really fun addition to the episode and added a lighter feel to the overly dark tone of the episode. I want to know whether Mary is completely committed to the divorce because Fred and her spent a lot of time during this episode acting as if they were still in a relationship. Archie was also asked by his mother to move to Chicago as well and he said that he would think about it. Also, Jughead was asked by his dad to move to wherever his mother is and I’m surprised that he was even considering going but I doubt that will actually happen…
  • Another episode means another scene in which Archie is obligated to be topless, which was quite funny because at this point it is ridiculous. Does he need to be topless? No…

MVP of the Episode

  • Archie and Veronica deserve the award because, despite doing something that was incredibly illegal and could have gotten the arrested, they are going to be able to prove that FP is being framed for murder and he should be freed. Without their snooping, he would have rotted in jail for ever.

Quote of the Episode

  • Alice: Oh, finally. Close that door. Ladies, I need you to look around the room. Whoever is not in this room is on the table as a possible murder suspect. Including those Pussycats.
    Betty: Oh, my God, Mom.

Verdict

I really liked this episode and, despite being drama filled and uncomfortable at times, the show moves the story along in the right direction and doesn’t waste time with unnecessary subplots that don’t go anywhere. Between the awkward dinnertime grilling and Veronica and Archie proving FP’s innocence, the show seems to be bouncing back again and I’m happy to say that, with two episodes left, I’m hoping for a good conclusion!
